Earlier today Continental Broadcast Group announced the launch of Indy’s newest radio format. WSYW will begin broadcasting “Spanish Oldies” starting first thing in the morning this Monday 12/14, on La Joya 810AM.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard welcomed the arrival of the new Spanish format today with the following comment: “Radio stations are vital components to a well informed and culturally diverse community. I would like to welcome La Joya 810AM to Indianapolis and I wish them all the best as they work to bring music to the people in Indianapolis. It is going to be great!”

La Joya (which means “The Jewel”) will feature popular hits from the 60s and 70s, with some fringe artists from the late 50s and early 80s. The station playlist will feature iconic Latin artists like Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernandez, Jose Jose, Los Temerarios, Luis Miguel, Chalino Sanchez and many other legendary music figures.

When asked about the reason for new format, WSYW Program Director Manuel Sepulveda had this to say: “The addition of La Joya 810AM offers a new listening option to Spanish speaking residents in Indiana. We believe this new format will compliment our current position on WEDJ-107.1FM (Radio Latina) and will allow us to super-serve two separate target audiences: Adults age 18-34 and 25-54...In doing so we will provide content that appeals to a larger portion of the region’s Hispanic population.” Further inquiries regarding either radio station can be directed to the Station Manager, Bart Johnson by calling the station or emailing to: Bart@wedjfm.com.
